U.S. officer’s Swagger Stick, Vietnam War, Con Son Island prisoner-made

DSCN6707 DSCN6708 DSCN6709 DSCN6711We are offering a rare historical artifact from the Vietnam War – a U.S. officer’s swagger stick carved from hard and beautiful Vietnamese rosewood by a prisoner at the infamous Con Son Island “tiger cage” prison. These swagger sticks were carved by prisoners to earn favor with the U.S. military guards. This hand carved rosewood stick features bamboo like carving on the stem and then a dramatic Vietnamese guardian demon on the head with pearl-like beads for eyes. The letters VN are carved in the back of the neck. The tip probably featured a 50 caliber or a Chinese or Russian bullet shell casing but this one has been lost to time. Otherwise, this swagger stick is in excellent condition and has no scratches cracks, gauges or breaks. Being made of Vietnamese rosewood, it is hard and heavy. A unique historical artifact. An important piece of Vietnam War memorabilia. A great Swagger Stick.
